Palm Sunday; The road from Victory to Crucify him!

The entry into Jerusalem of the king, as recorded in Zechariah 9:9, paints a picture, perfect scene. The rejoicing, the singing, the celebrating. But those who laid the palm fronds or threw down their coats to welcome the king would in a few short days also yell, “crucify him!” (Mark 15:13)
Perhaps, as I did as a child, you took place in a palm Sunday reenactment. You may have been given a palm leaf and asked to place it on the altar. It is a lovely tradition. It is a time of celebration of one of the many prophecies that Jesus needed to fulfill.
Remember, while this day is full of pleasantries and good intentions later in this week, Jesus will suffer and be crucified. Perhaps you have taken part in activities and public sentiment that has left you feeling guilty or far from Jesus. I want to remind you that while enduring the agony on the cross, Jesus said, “forgive them.” (Luke 23:34)
Before you beat yourself up too much remember, Holy Week is about forgiveness. It is about Jesus paying the ultimate price for forgiveness of sins and salvation.
As one of my favorite songs puts it, “it may seem like Friday night, but Sundays on the way!” (Sunday’s on the Way, 1983 Carmen)
So, as we celebrate Easter, remember to focus on the empty tomb, where Jesus conquered death, and gave you the right to adoption. There is nothing that you can do, or could have done that trump’s his authority. Just get back to following him.
Happy Honeymooning!
Zechariah 9;9 “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout in triumph, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King is coming to you: He is just and endowed with salvation; Humble, and mounted on a donkey, Even a colt, the foal of a donkey.”
