Spring, the season of renewal

Spring Equinox ushers in the season of renewal. On the day of equinox, equal night, both the northern and southern hemispheres receive the same amount of sunlight. Spring has sprung as the saying goes.
Spring is the time for renewal of what laid dormant during the inhospitable season of winter. Easter falls during spring in our Judeo Christian Culture and showers and warner weather buds life back into sight.
Marriages, even everlasting romances, go through seasons. It is natural and healthy to have less desirable times show up, the key is how we manage these events. Like spring, these dark and difficult seasons can sprout beautiful new growth.
Curtis and I experienced a very difficult season in our 24th year of marriage. We had three teenagers in the home and it proved to be a great struggle. But Curtis stepped up after I cried out in desperation one day. He sent me a spreadsheet. Don’t be jealous, he’s a real romantic like that.
It was his way to offer and organize a long overdue honeymoon. We considered several options in the Caribbean settling on Jost Van Dyke. This destination is not for everyone. This tiny island with 200 full time residents does not offer all-inclusive options. It is a carry-in all of your supplies from Tortola spot. But for us it was perfect.
We rented a bungalow on a 6 home property; but ended up being the only occupants those two weeks. We had a private cove beach. It was like being shipwrecked on Giligan’s Island. Curtis and I soaked in all the rest and relaxation and peace and quiet. It was an absolute reset.
You don’t have to hit a hard reset like we did. A lovely drive near your home in the spring with a nice lunch can offer a huge dose of peace of mind and communion for your marriage. A date night with a quiet supper at home just the two of you snuggling up can be a great rejuvenation. The only trick is to accept Jesus' invitation and “come away” to a quiet place together.
Happy Honeymooning!
Mark 6:31 And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a secluded place and rest a while.”
