What the Margarita can teach us about a Honeymoon Life marriage!

February 22nd, 2024 is National Margarita day, and I say God bless it! According to Calendar.com the Margarita symbolizes fun, elegance and happiness. Whether you drink a margarita tomorrow or not I am going to challenge you to embrace this strategy in your marriage for this day.
If tequila, triple sec and lime juice can cause a nation to stop and honor it how much more can we as spouses mix these attributes into our everyday relationship.
Fun; instead of accepting that we finish up our day by sitting on the couch and watching the nightly news, try turning off the TV and cranking up your spouse’s favorite music genre and asking them to dance. You may get a look of horror or dismay if this is your first time embracing the Honeymoon Life attitude, but trust me the resonating effects will be worth the shock value.
Elegance; before turning out the lights ask, “what was a blessing to you today?” Before Curtis and I first introduced this habit into our day, there was an awkward moment before prayer and the good night kiss (and whatever came next ; ). It felt like there was something left to discover for the day. If we begin to unearth each day what our spouse is grateful about we can focus our intentions and energies into meeting that love need. Besides, we enter His gates “with thanksgiving and praise!” Psalms 100:4
Happiness; much like a satisfying meal or a pleasant night with dear friends or just a beautiful walk on the beach, a well orchestrated marriage leaves a feeling and sense of well being. I never feel safer or more protected than when I stand in the shadow of Curtis raising his hands in worship. Likewise, simply laying my head on his chest and realizing that there is no more exotic place on earth than where I am right then, that is my happy place.
The margarita is a very simple drink. Not much to make it stand out except perhaps the balance of flavors and the way it is presented in a beautiful glass. Let’s learn a lesson from the margarita, just take your lemons that life has given you and squeeze them for all they are worth, pour out your best tequila of passion, and dash in the triple sec of creative effort and make everyday in our marriage a honeymoon!
Happy Honeymooning!
"Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name!” Psalms 100:4
